JPJ issues over 1,000 notices against traffic offenders during CNY

KUCHING: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) issued 1,233 notices for various traffic offences throughout Sarawak during the Chinese New Year (CNY) celebrations.

JPJ said 617 motorists, 478 motorcyclists, 11 buses, 125 commercial vehicles and two other vehicles were issued notices.

“During the operation 25 motorcycles, seven cars and three lorries were seized,” the department said in a statement.

Among the offences were riding and driving without a licence, expired road tax, riding and driving without both road tax and insurance and overtaking at double lines.

Apart from that, 16,425 vehicles were inspected throughout the CNY operation.

The department urged road users to abide by the traffic rules to ensure safety and reduce the rate of accidents and deaths on the road.
