Jubilee year means more activities for youth

KOTA SAMARAHAN: Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (Saberkas) pledged to organise and host more activities to attract more youths in conjunction with the association’s golden jubilee.

Its president Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said in conjunction with the association’s 50-year celebration, more and bigger programmes would be held.

“From this month until the middle of this year, we will arrange a programme weekly.

“There will be approximately 727 programmes, which include social, recreational, welfare, education, leadership training, economy, entrepreneurship, and many others,” he said.

He told this to reporters at the Saberkas Leisure Charity Cycling programme in conjunction with Saberkas Golden Jubilee celebration at Rumah Komuniti, Sadong Jaya here today (Jan 29).

Elaborating, Abdul Karim said that the association had experienced various ups and downs to be where it is today.

“We are proud that we are able to reach 50 years since the establishment, and as the largest youth association in Sarawak, we can also be regarded as one of the largest in Malaysia.

“At the same time, we want to uphold our responsibilities to lead youths and contribute to the community, state and country,” he said.

According to him, the weekly programme would be held across the state and not just at the Saberkas Sadong Jaya branch.

Touching on the event, the Saberkas Leisure Charity Cycling programme is a collaboration with the Sadong Jaya Saberkas branch and Saberkas Sarawak.

A total of 50 cyclists participated in the event, which was also attended by Sadong Jaya assemblyman Aidel Lariwoo, who is also Saberkas Sadong Jaya chairman.

During the event, Abdul Karim also presented food baskets (Saberkas Prihatin) to 10 recipients.

Also present was Senator Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim, who is also the Saberkas Sarawak exco.
