KUCHING: The government plans to accelerate the establishment of a judicial academy, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

“The government should not view the establishment of this academy as following other countries such as the United Kingdom, Singapore and the Philippines.

“We have to see that there is a need to improve in terms of judicial transformation,” he pointed out.

Wan Junaidi said these were among matters he had discussed with the
chief registrar of the Federal Court Hasbi Hasan.

Recently, Hasbi paid a courtesy visit to Wan Junaidi at his office, and among the matters discussed was the need to improve court infrastructure and the latest developments in the legal fraternity.

“Among the issues discussed is the construction of court buildings in every part of Sarawak.

“This must be planned and built,” he said in his Facebook post recently.

Wan Junaidi said that during the meeting, he also emphasised that the Court respects the Malaysia Act 1963 (Chapter 26) to establish branches or offices of judicial commissions for the states of Sarawak and Sabah as stipulated in the Act.
