KUCHING: Former Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Lubok Antu MP Jugah Muyang needs to seriously find an appropriate platform to assist the people in his constituency.

Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Women chief Datuk Seri Doris Brodie said the constituency was traditionally allocated to PRS, and party president Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing had earlier announced that he had no qualms about welcoming Jugah back.

“In Jugah’s recent statement, he had mentioned that Lubok Antu is a rural area and it needs the government’s support to develop it. It is for that reason that he is now pledging his support for Perikatan Nasional (PN) and the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government.

“Based on that, it seems to me that Jugah is making an ‘intelligent’ move.  However, he has yet to find a platform to assist the people of Lubok Antu to progress,” she said in a statement on Monday (June 8).

She was commenting on Jugah’s resignation from PKR on June 5 and his decision to be an Independent, and his pledge of support for the PN government led by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg’s GPS.

Since Pakatan Harapan (PH) is no longer the ruling government, Jugah had left and since disassociated himself from PH, she said.

“It is interesting to note Jugah’s political move. He had stood as an Independent candidate in the last 14th General Election (GE14) after having quit as a PRS member and later opting to join PKR which was part of the PH federal government then.

“As I vividly remember, he had been the chairman of Pujut PRS in Miri before transferring his membership to Engkilili PRS prior to the GE 14,” she said.

On June 6, Masing said Jugah was welcome to rejoin PRS if he was keen. “After all the Lubok Antu seat belongs to PRS in the first place. It makes it easier for me to decide on who to nominate come 15th General Election (GE 15),” said Masing, who is also the Deputy Chief Minister.
