Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang leads a hectic schedule yet manages to balance his personal life with his professional commitments.

He shared what keeps him motivated, crediting his supportive wife for understanding his demanding job schedule, for which he is deeply grateful.

In a rare insight shared with the New Sarawak Tribune, the former state chief environmental health officer at the Ministry of Local Government and Housing (MLGH), Billy provides a glimpse into his character and aspirations.

New Sarawak Tribune: Can you describe yourself in five words?

Billy: I am someone who always smiles, is kind-hearted, loving, caring, and humorous. However, like anyone, I sometimes get angry, though rarely.

Ever since being elected, what does your daily routine look like?

Despite being a YB (elected representative), I still drive my children. I take my daughter to school, then head to my constituency. I spend almost the entire day there, returning home in the evening or late at night. My routine primarily involves serving the people.

As a YB, we must also make time to relax with family and friends.

What do you do in your free time? How do you balance life and work?

My hobby is running. If there’s a run, I’ll definitely participate, usually on weekends. I’m a workaholic, so work is my priority, but I also make time to play badminton with my brothers and children.

What brings you satisfaction as a YB?

Currently, I can’t say I’m satisfied with what I’ve accomplished, as there’s much more to do as a new YB. I’m grateful to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for recently allocating an extra RM150 million under the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA). This funding will help meet many needs in my constituency. While it’s not enough to address all the needs of the villagers, the majority of their requests should be fulfilled by next year and until 2025, according to my plan.

In the next five years, what do you hope to contribute to your constituency?

My constituency, despite its proximity to Kuching, lags behind others in development. My first priority is to establish at least one township in my area, a key focus in our last election manifesto. We await the Premier’s approval for a suitable site we’ve identified.

Additionally, I aim to ensure complete basic infrastructure, such as roads and water treatment plants. Ideally, before the next five years, I want to see our water treatment plant operational in my area, as treated water is crucial for my constituents.
