JULAU is set to get a new fire station under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), Rolling Plan 3, 2023.

Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian informed this during his ministerial winding-up speech on today.

He said the siting application had been submitted to the Land and Survey Department on July 31 last year.

“The department has submitted an application for RM3mil for earth work. In the meantime, the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) will study the need to set up Bomba Sukarela (volunteer firefighters) in Meluan constituency to mitigate the lack of firefighting capacity there.”

In addition, Dr Sim also informed that the Kota Sentosa area, which includes Kota Sentosa town, Batu Kitang Industrial Area and Kota Padawan town, was one of the areas identified for a new fire station.

“However, due to the unavailability of suitable land, the proposed fire station will be realised by way of procuring an existing building.

“Application for approval for the acquisition of the building was submitted to the Bomba headquarters, Putrajaya on July 15, 2019.

“Kota Sentosa is currently being served by the Batu Lintang fire station and is also assisted by other fire stations from Kuching and Siburan.”

Dr Sim also noted that Bomba acknowledged the need to establish a fire station in Kabong District as the nearest fire station is 50km away in Saratok.

He said the department was in the process of identifying a suitable site, and an effort to establish a Bomba Community for Kabong District was in progress.
