Junkie held, drugs seized

A local suspect believed to be abusing drugs, was arrested by Bintulu narcotic police last Friday.

BINTULU: Narcotic police here busted a suspected junkie and seized drugs believed to be syabu last Friday.  

In a statement, Bintulu district police chief Supt Batholomew Umpit said the team arrested a local man on suspicion of engaging in substance abuse around Jalan Pedada.

The team managed to seize 0.5g of drugs believed to be syabu from the suspect.

He pointed out that the 35-year-old suspect will be investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a jail term up to five years and a fine up to RM100,000, if convicted.

In addition, the suspect was also tested positive for drugs and will be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act.

Batholomew pointed out that the arrest is one of Bintulu police’s effort to overcome the issue of drugs and prevent criminal activities.
