MUKAH: The appointment of a new Dewan Rakyat Speaker piqued the interest among some people in the state as there are speculations that the candidate could be a Sarawakian.
For Tellian assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo, he didn’t really bother much about the matter.
“Just wait and see,” he told New Sarawak Tribune via WhatsApp today.
He was commenting on a report by a local English daily on Saturday saying that the candidate to be appointed as the new Dewan Rakyat Speaker has been identified, as revealed by Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chief whip Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
If the new Speaker to be appointed is truly from Sarawak, then the candidate could be the first Sarawakian to hold the post.
Previously, a Sarawakian was appointed to the level of deputy speaker post only, and Santubong MP Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar was given the honour from 2008 to 2013.
He is currently the Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives.
