K9 dog unit mobilised to identify cause of fire

MIRI: Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) has mobilised its K9 dog unit here for forensic work in identifying the cause of the fire at the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA)’s building at Pulau Melayu 1.

A fire broke out from the top floor of the eight-storey building which is still under construction late Tuesday evening. The fire destroyed 14 water tanks at the scene.

According to Miri Bomba zone 6 Fire Investigation Division head Awangku Mohd Hazmin Awang Zainal, the team (K9 dog unit) has been mobilised early Wednesday morning from Kuching and expected to arrive here the same evening.

He said, for now the actual cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident which occurred at around 5.37 pm.

The building, a federal government project is scheduled for completion in December 2023.
