KUCHING: Malaysia’s badminton duo Chooi Kah Meng and Low Juan Shen lost to Biao Chai and Wei Hong of China 21-6, 21-19 in the second round in Celcom Axiata Malaysia Open 2017 at Stadium Perpaduan in Petra Jaya here, yesterday. Low admitted that they lost their focus when playing against China.

“I admit that we lost our focus against the China duo with a lot of unforced errors that easily gave points to our rivala,” he said. His partner, Chooi said they made a lot of small mistakes, especially at the end of the second set.

“We lost focus when we almost won the second set. We are less prepared for this match and will work hard for the next tournament,” he said, adding that they will next play in the China Masters.

Meanwhile, their coach Jeremy Gan said both players were too anxious to win, causing them to give away easy points. He added that their defeat was also due to the pressure they faced playing at home ground. “Previously, they won the World Super Series in Dubai but unfortunately they lost in the quarterfinals of the All England.

“They may still be disappointed with the previous defeat and got carried away by that feeling until today (yesterday),” he added. Gan stressed that Low and Chooi should learn to accept defeat with an open heart so that they would not be carried away with feelings of disappointment in other matches as it can affect their performances.

“Besides learning to accept defeat, they must learn from past mistakes and train harder for their next tournament. “Their must be strong mentally and should also constantly strive to improve and sharpen their skills,” he told reporters on how he motivates the players.
