KUCHING: The people of Kampung Mambong in Puncak Borneo constituency can now make use of 4G network.
Plantation and Commodities Deputy Minister Datuk Willie Mongin said a recent upgrade to the village’s telecommunications infrastructure had benefitted the villagers within a two-kilometre radius.
“I hope that with this upgraded telecommunication network, the schoolchildren will be able to follow online lessons and the villagers will be able to interact virtually.
“I understand that many villages still have poor telecommunication signals. This will be addressed and I will continue to work for it,” he said in a Facebook post last Saturday.
Willie also thanked Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah for assisting in the upgrade.
“My thanks also go to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Sarawak, Celcom, Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) and Sacofa for their dedication,” he said.
Last month, the Puncak Borneo MP said Kampung Bunuk was upgraded to 4G network.
Willie said, in the constituency, there were 75 towers that were already operational while 27 4G telecommunication towers were approved under the National Digital Infrastructure Plan (Jendela).
“This will be tendered by the MCMC. In addition, we also have 16 additional communication towers from the SMA that are being built.
“When all 43 new telecommunication towers are operational, the telecommunication coverage in Puncak Borneo will be 98 percent,” he said.
