SERIAN: Kampung Mujat in Tebedu district has been allocated a sum of RM4.5 million to develop the land in the area for paddy cultivation.

Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Martin Ben said that the land area of 80 hectares will be developed with the construction of agricultural roads as well as irrigation and drainage systems.

This, he said, is in line with the efforts of the Sarawak government which wants to maintain food security for its people especially after the price of food has increased.

“The lack of food supply due to the COVID-19 pandemic that has hit the whole world has caused food prices to skyrocket,” he was quoted as saying by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) in a news report.

Earlier, Martin was speaking at a dialogue session for the proposed project for Kampung Mujat here.

Martin, who is also a Kedup assemblyman, hopes that the residents of Kampung Mujat who are involved in the project will also play a role in helping to make Malaysia one of the contributors to the food supply chain such as rice and other products.
