MUKAH: A retired headmaster, Anthony Samti, 57, has been appointed as Penghulu of Kampung Tellian here starting Jan 1, 2020 and ending in December 2021.
He replaces former Penghulu Lai Mayer Gabong who retired due to health problems.
Kampung Tellian Tengah village chief, Bonaventure Juana Lupieh, hoped that with the new Penghulu, Kampung Tellian Tengah and Ulu would be better administered with the cooperation of the residents.
He wished former Penghulu Lai good health and long life, saying that his service would always be remembered and appreciated.
Juana said this when met during a communal work party (gotong-royong) to build a ‘Tibow’ in Kampung Tellian Daya yesterday afternoon.
“As I have explained earlier, the affairs of the villagers should first be referred to their respective chiefs instead of constantly going straight to the Penghulu who has ‘higher’ duties and responsibilities,” he said.
Through a WhatsApp group chat, the members in and around Kampung Tellian Tengah and Ulu welcomed the appointment of their new Penghulu.
