SIBU: A policeman attached to Kanowit District Police Headquarters (IPD) and his wife tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday as a result of the Pasai Cluster.

This was confirmed by Kanowit District police chief DSP Tega Bilong in a statement today.

The policeman and his wife attended a funeral at Rumah Langi Ambau in Pasai Siong on Dec 29.

“They were both screened at Lanang Health Clinic and instructed to undergo a 14-day quarantine at home from Jan 9 until 22 at the Kanowit IPD quarters,” said Tega.

He added that results of the reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (rT-PCR) test on Monday found that the policeman and his wife were positive for Covid-19 and were taken to Sibu Hospital for treatment.

Tega said the policeman was on duty on Jan 1 at the Kanowit station complaints counter after his holiday.

“Kanowit IPD has listed the names of those who have close contact with the officer to undergo screening immediately,” he said.
