KANOWIT: Fourteen new faces were among 32 councillors sworn in at the Kanowit District Council (KDC) yesterday.
They will serve from April 1 this year until March 31, 2025.
The swearing-in ceremony was led by newly appointed chairman Jackline August, who is also the Kanowit District Officer.
The new councillors include Rebekah Saing, Fung Kok Ling, Yap Siwe Hui, Ho Sing Hong, Law Kah Seng, Leong Yeu Hung, Wong Kheh Fat, Jelema Meringgai, Alau Tayan, Usin Medang, Paing Lanyau, Ngieng Hock Hin, Juin Adan and Enddy Ajut.
The ceremony was witnessed by Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil.
When met by the media, Penguang expressed his hope that the new councillor would bring fresh ideas, views and opinions to the KDC.
“In their respective areas, we can consider them as mini-YBs who are here to assist the district office by gathering feedback from the community,” he said.
Also present was Machan assemblyman Allan Siden Gramong, Ngemah Assemblyman Anyi Jana, Housing and Local Government Ministry Elizabeth Loh, Sibu Resident Wong Hie Sieng and others.
