Kapit is now a Covid-19 red zone

KUCHING: Kapit District is now one of the eight districts in Sarawak to be declared as a Covid-19 red zone.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) on Monday (Feb 1) said the declaration was made after 41 locally transmitted cases were recorded in the district within the past 14 days.

SDMC added that Bau and Lundu also changed from yellow to orange after 22 and 25 locally transmitted cases were recorded respectively in the past two weeks.

“Another district that has changed its status is Beluru, which was previously a red zone.

“It is now a yellow zone with only 20 local infection cases reported in the last 14 days.”

SDMC said the districts of Song, Dalat, Bintulu, Kanowit, Miri, Sibu and Kuching remained as red zones with a total of 1,934 cases of local infections reported in the seven districts in the last two weeks.

“Sarikei, Subis and Betong districts also remain as orange zones with 84 cases of local infection reported in the last 14 days.”

Matu, Daro, Sebauh, Lawas, Telang Usan, Bukit Mabong, Tatau, Pakan, Serian, Belaga, Meradong, Julau, Simunjan, Lubok Antu, Selangau, Samarahan and Sri Aman districts remain as yellow zones with a total of 122 locally transmitted cases reported in the past two weeks.
