KUCHING: LEA Sports Centre Sdn Bhd (LSC) once again threw their full support for football development in the rural areas by sponsoring the Kapit-LSC League Football Competition 2017.

The sponsorship handover ceremony for the Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing Challenge Trophy was held at the Deputy Chief Minister’s Office in Baitulmakmur Building, Petra Jaya, here, on Thursday.

The league, which will kick off at Kapit Stadium from July 21 to Sept 9, is part of the long-term effort of the 2016-2020 Football Club Development Plan.

The league will be held by Kapit FA in collaboration with the Football Association of Sarawak (FAS), the LEA Sports Centre (LSC), the Starsport and Adidas.

Responding to the challenge by Rural and Regional Development Deputy Minister Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, Kapit FA has stepped up with a Kapit Football Development Plan (PPBK) in Kapit-LSC League Football Competition 2017 the Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing Challenge Trophy as one of the programmes.

The initiative is aimed at producing players of state and national standards while developing the football industry in the Kapit area and create competitive players and bring new challenges at the state and national levels.

The solid support from LSC to the league and local football competitions began since 1994 together with FAS and its affiliates in terms of youth development programmes and referee courses.

Kapit FA’s efforts have gained solid support from LSC where their efforts to unearth hidden talents from the rural areas are in line with the desire to select and highlight the players between the urban and rural areas in the state.

Such a league also provides the opportunity for football players from Kapit to shine and don both the state and national jerseys in the future.

Meanwhile, eight teams from last year’s top three winners including defending champions 66 Mobile FC, last year’s first and second runners-up 7D FC and Young Leopards, Accurate FC, 22 Song, Kapit Eagles, Ouna FC and CJLB have confirmed their participation in the league.
