KAPIT: The Sarawak government wants to turn Kapit into a filming location, and will also air its tourist attractions on Sarawak’s very own television station, TVSarawak (TVS).

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said as he was riding from Sibu to Kapit on Sunday, he noticed that the scenery in Kapit was breath-taking.

“So, I have told our Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah to air Kapit area on our TV.

“Secondly, maybe we can invite filmmakers to shoot film in Kapit. This is because the scenery here is so beautiful,” he said when officiating at the Kapit Town Square on Sunday.

The Rajang River has been the lifeline of Kapit and many rural riverine towns until the state government built roads connecting the “last mile”. The future of these towns are set to change.

He said furthermore films on Kapit heroes could be created to relate stories on the history of Kapit.

“I am able to say this because now Sarawak has its very own TV station already,” he said.

The chief minister added he had requested the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud to officially launch TVS on Oct 10, and the public could access it on Astro Channel 122.

“Through TVS, the arts and culture of Sarawak can be further displayed and that will be able to show viewers the development of the state,” said Abang Johari.
