KUCHING: Asajaya assemblyman Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah has hinted on the possibility of swapping seats in the coming state election.

The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice-president however said he would leave it to the party’s president and GPS chairman Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to decide on the distribution of the seats.

Abdul Karim asserted that only the winnable candidates deserved to be nominated in their traditional seats.

“For me, frankly speaking, the rakyat now are more aware and sensitive about their leader. Such traditional seats may not be so relevant for the party or the incumbents who only depend on other parties’ machineries.

“How can we elect a candidate who knows nothing about the grassroots. If they’ve done nothing, then they don’t deserve to be there.

“The party that they represent too should give way to other component parties which may have better chances to win the votes from the ground.

“I said this because we have already seen how the rakyat had toppled a government in the last general election in 2018.

“When the rakyat get really fed up with the leaders, even you put a cow as candidate they will vote just to topple an irresponsible leader,” he stressed.

On the other hand, he admitted that most GPS state assemblymen and assemblywomen were very committed in giving their services to develop and fulfil the people’s need.

“In PBB, if the state leader said that this is the time for a leader to go, he or she will go without questioning the leadership. This has been our culture, high respect for each other,” he pointed out.
