KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice president Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah has rubbished claims that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) members have shifted to back Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“All these rumours of GPS MPs jumping over to join Anwar are rubbish and aimed at creating uncertainty and instability in Malaysian politics,” he said.

He added that GPS was ‘as solid as ever’ with Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

“We are not easily swayed and cannot be pulled by our noses, more so by the likes of Anwar. Anwar must learn to respect us in Sarawak.

“No amount of carrot-dangling will sway GPS parties,” he emphasised.

Abdul Karim said that the GPS government had agreed to team up with PN to create stability in Malaysian politics, assuring that GPS would not be despicable in creating instability after that.

His comments were in response to a recent report on a news portal which alleged that some in GPS were considering severing ties with allies in PN.

The report had claimed that friction had arisen between GPS and allies in Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and United Malays National Organisation (Umno) at the sidelines of the Sabah state election, as well as over the Petronas deal and the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

Its sources alleged that the insistence of Bersatu and Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) to contest in the upcoming Sarawak election had also contributed to friction between GPS and PN.
