KD Kelantan sets to boost security in Sabah waters

KOTA KINABALU: The arrival of Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) patrol vessel, KD Kelantan, at its Eastern Fleet Command Headquarters at the Kota Kinabalu Royal Naval Base in Sepanggar yesterday will further enhance security in the waters off Sabah and strengthen the country’s line of defence.

RMN Eastern Fleet Commander, Vice Admiral Datuk Syed Zahiruddin Putra Syed Osman said the new generation patrol vessel is in a league of its own due to its smart ship concept.

He also said the arrival of the asset saw KD Kelantan joined three other vessels, namely KD Perak, KD Kedah and KD Selangor, being stationed at the Eastern Fleet Command Headquarters.

“KD Kelantan has been planned to be place dat the Kota Kinabalu Royal Naval Base since last year, and now it has arrived,” he told reporters after the reception ceremony of the vessel here. Also present were Submarine F o r c e C omma n d e r , R e a r Admiral Zulhelmy Ithnain, Eastern Naval Logi s t ic Commander, Commodore I r Ow Kiat Bi n and KD Kelantan Commanding Officer, Commander Manimaran Chellaiturai Arjunan.

A total of 110 KD Kelantan crew members are involved in the move, and subsequently the families of 36 of them would be shifting here in the near future. – Bernama
