SIMANGGANG: Keen to get into farming?

The Sri Aman Division Agriculture Office is ever ready to provide assistance and guidance to anyone interested in agricultural activities, get assistance and guidance.

Simanggang assemblyman Datuk Francis Harden Hollis said agriculture is the mainstay of the local community’s economy.

“Recognising this fact, the Sri Aman Division Agriculture Office is prepared to help residents with whatever assistance and guidance.

“Farmers are no strangers in this era, this is because of their diligent and earnest work to lift themselves and their families out of the vicious poverty cycle. If we look around us, there are still plenty of idle land,” he said during a community extension outreach programme (CEOP) at Rh Belai Antot, Brangan Ili, Ng Skrang on Wednesday (Aug 19).

The CEOP programme encourages participants to seek opportunities in commercial agriculture.

A total of 98 participants from six longhouses participated in the one-day programme which presented various briefings on agricultural topics, including paddy, pineapple and corn cultivation, inland fisheries and livestock breeding.

Harden, who is the Community Wellbeing Assistant Minister, later presented vegetable seeds to each longhouse participant.

The occasion also saw a speaker from the Sri Aman Division Community Welfare Department explaining the benefits of owning Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC) and the benefits available under the  Kidney Patient Assistance (Dialysis) and Maternity Assistance (BIB) programmes.
