KUCHING: A Sarawakiana Talk Series entitled ‘The Potential of Sarawak’s Literary Heritage as a National and World Heritage’ will be held to highlight the characteristics of significant cultural heritage for the National Heritage Register under Act 645.

A statement from the Sarawak State Library (Pustaka) on Monday (Feb 7) said the talk, which will be delivered by Malay Documentation Centre, Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka former head Kamariah Abu Samah, will be held on Feb 14, at 9.30 am at the Special Collection Room, Level 1, Sarawak State Library.

“Along the line, the talk will also explore the potential of Pustaka in preserving the cultural, linguistic and literary treasures of Sarawak which have the value of universal excellence, potentially elevated to the international level as the Memory Register of the World Register, United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

“There will also be a brief overview of the proposed works of Sarawak literature as a proposal for the National Heritage Register (which will be processed by librarians and researchers as an ongoing project),” it said, adding that the speaker will give suggestions for the implementation of short-term and long-term programmes for recognition.
