KUCHING: Malaysia Day Community Fun Run 2023 is a testament to the multiracial community in Sarawak and Malaysia.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said the run on Sunday morning has proven that racial harmony is present in the country and in Sarawak where all types of races come together, run together, walk together, eat together and play together.

“I always appeal to the public, all Sarawakians and all Malaysians to keep the harmony and peace of the country which is not an easy task.

“So whatever event we are having, as a city council we always like to have community engagement, this time we have the Farley Foundation and Bomba (Fire and Rescue Department),” Wee told reporters at Farley Mall on Sunday (Sept 17).

Wee was representing Deputy Premier Datuk Sri Dr. Sim Kui Hian to officiate the event.

He urged everyone to keep the community spirit alive and to always remain united.

“It is everyone’s duty to keep what we have inherited, it is not easy but we need to try our best whether it is through events or awareness, everybody has a role to play,” he said.

He also shared that as a council, it often is the first to receive criticisms and complaints from the public but often directs them to the relevant authorities to solve related issues.

“We try to do whatever we can. That is why as a city council, we need to work closely with everyone and have a very good network with everyone,” he added.

About 1,200 runners took part in the Malaysia Day Community Fun Run 2023 held at Farley Mall.

Among those present at the event were State Bomba director, Datuk Khirudin Drahman, and Farley managing director, Lau Siew Whye and Eijing Lau, Yayasan Farley president.
