Aaron beats a gong to launch the event.

SIBU: The Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) has been doing an excellent job in safeguarding the welfare of the Dayak community, particularly those living in urban areas.

According to the Minister of National Unity Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, SDNU, along with Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS), have been actively committed to assisting the Dayak community.

“Sibu SDNU and Sibu SIDS never failed to assist and offer help to those affected by fire, flood, or other disaster,” he said in his speech at the SDNU pre-Gawai dinner here last night (May 13), which was attended by over 1,000 guests.

The event was organised by Sibu SDNU, Sibu SIDS, Persatuan Kebangsaan Dayak Bidayuh (DBNA) Sibu, and Persatuan Kebangsaan Orang Ulu (OUNA) Sibu with the theme ‘Unity in Diversity’.

Aaron also praised both organisations for their participation in various community programmes and encouraged them to continue fostering unity with other associations while serving the Dayak community.

In the meantime, the Kanowit Member of Parliament also invited the Sibu people to participate in the National Unity Week, which will take place in Kuching from May 21 to 28.

The programme will be graced by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on May 21, and a variety of exciting events will be held throughout the celebration.

Meanwhile, on the Gawai Dayak festival itself, he expressed his hope for a meaningful celebration that would bring together families, relatives, and friends in the longhouses.

Also present were Sibu Member of Parliament Oscar Ling Chai Yew, Temenggong Stanley Geramong, and Sibu SDNU chairman Chambai Lindong.
