JULAU: Pepper production must maintain high quality consistently to preserve its market value.

Baram MP and Malaysian Pepper Board (MPB) chairman Datuk Anyi Ngau said this means closely watching over how the pepper grows, gets processed, and is stored, ensuring it always meets the set standards.

He noted that places like Julau and Pakan are among Malaysia’s top pepper producers, especially in Sarawak.

According to him, Sarawak’s pepper is considered the finest compared to varieties from other countries.

Anyi said this at the closing of the MPB Digitalising Services Seminar held at Julau Community Hall here recently.

He also highlighted how it’s important for small-scale pepper farmers to get familiar with the latest technology used in the pepper industry.

Using the newest technology can help these small farmers grow more pepper and improve its quality. This, in turn, helps the whole pepper industry move forward and sustainable.

“The better the pepper quality, the more it can influence its price in today’s market. This change can also bring really good advantages to small pepper farmers,” Anyi explained.
