KUCHING: Senior Sarawakians aged 60 and above will be able to enjoy further discounts and rebates through the Kenyalang Gold Card.

In revealing this, the Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said her ministry through its Sarawak Women and Family Council is looking forward to tabling a motion on the card during the Cabinet meeting in December.

“We hope to get approval from the Cabinet that month. If there is no problem, the card can be endorsed early next year,” she told the media after chairing a meeting with the council at Penview Hotel
yesterday.

The minister also said the card could be launched in January next year if it gets majority support during the Cabinet meeting.

“There are 20 key industry players that have confirmed their commitment to becoming strategic partners in realising the state’s policy for the elderly.

“Senior citizens holding identity cards that bear the ‘K’ (Sarawak) label can register with the state Welfare Department,” she said.

In formulating the policy for senior citizens, Fatimah said that the chief minister suggested that the council should refer to the model used by Sweden where such cards safeguard the welfare, interests and
well-being of senior citizens.

Fatimah also called upon all private companies to work together with the ministry to further strengthen the
initiative.
