Kenyalang Gold Card gets more strategic partners

SIBU: A total of 207,452 Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC) applications have been received by the Sarawak Welfare Department since it was introduced in the state last year.

Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said of the total, 11,592 applications were received from January to June 30 this year.

“As of June 30, the department has also received applications from 278 companies across Sarawak to become KGC’s strategic partners and the number is expected to increase from time to time.

“We warmly welcome all parties to be strategic partners in the future,” she said during a symbolic handing over of plaques and stickers to KGC’s strategic partners here, today.

KGC’s new strategic partners in the district are De House Hotel, 20dB Hearing Sdn Bhd, Fortune Supreme Food Supply (Sibu) Sdn Bhd, Public Book Co. Sdn Bhd and Klinik Pergigian Ivory Dental.

Fatimah stressed that the KGC was to improve the wellbeing and welfare of senior citizens in the state through the provision of facilities and benefits in the form of discounts, rebates and other facilities from various organisations and the commercial sector.

“It also aims to create a caring society and giving back to the community.

“The speciality of KGC is that it is equipped with facilities in the form of discounts or rebates for goods and services offered by private parties and commercial centres that are KGC’s strategic partners.

“Among them are the health (medicine, rehabilitation and pharmacy), public transport, necessities (groceries, clothes, footwear, optics, personal care, reflexology, massage, spas, manicures, pedicures, hairdressing) as well as theme parks and recreation,” she said.

Fatimah revealed that the department had also received 1,845 applications for death compassionate assistance of which 1,406 applications have been approved.

Also present were Assistant Minister of Women, Family and Childhood Development Datuk Rosey Yunus and Sibu Resident Wong Hee Sieng.
