MIRI: There was a surge of 34 per cent of entries at this year’s Kenyalang Journalism Awards 2022 (KJA 2022).

Compared to 364 entries received in 2021, there are 461 entries for this year’s KJA 2022.

Chairman and chief executive officer of Malaysia Press Institute, Datuk Dr Chamil Wariya said that every category consisting of printed and news portal, photography, broadcast, and videos saw an outstanding increase for the entries.

“For categories such as news reporting, journalism – feature and news feature, sports reporting and broadcast journalism, these record an enormous increase in terms of entries for all languages while other categories recorded a steady increase,” he said.

He said this in his speech at KJA 2022 ceremony at Imperial Hotel here last night.

Chamil added that this recent development was a good sign for KJA in terms of the entries in the future.

“In terms of the quality, the judges felt that the storyline for every work is truly deep and comprehensive.

“The topic that was chosen, especially the current issues such as inflation, and the people’s issues received acclaim from the judges,” he said.

He also pointed out that there was still room for improvement for the reporters and photographers in the future.

“Some of the mistakes such as sentences errors, languages, bad editing and that could make the readers stop reading the articles.

“I hope that they can further improve this mistake in the future,” he said.
