MIRI: Sarawak Fruit Enterprise’s keropok dabai debuted at the Direct Sales from Farm (Jualan Terus Dari Ladang) Carnival held at the Bintang MegaMall here yesterday. According to the company business development manager Chuo Nang Ling, the keropok (cracker) was produced following an idea from an officer with the Kuching Agricultural Research Centre (ARC).

“Seeing the great potential of the idea, our company began to learn processing the keropok dabai in May last year. “After some marketing strategy and customer feedback, we have turned it into a vegetarian cracker free from ingredients such as anchovies.

“All processes are done by Muslim workers,” he said, adding that the raw crackers could last up to a year. Chuo said they also produce kacang dabai which is made from dabai kernels and gaining popularity in Singapore. “It took more than five days to produce a bottle of 100g kacang dabai because it is manually done.

“In a single day, workers can produce 900g of dabai seeds which have undergone separating and drying processes,” he explained. According to him, the company also produces frozen products such as pastes out of dabai, durian, jackfruit, rambutan and isau.

“Right now, we only make frozen pastes out of durian and dabai which are in season,” he said. Meanwhile, the state Federal Agriculture Marketing Authority (Fama) director Shahid Abu Bakar said Sarawak Fruit Enterprise’s dabai products are a successful innovation as people can enjoy them throughout the year. The Direct Sales from Farm Carnival started yesterday and will end tomorrow.
