KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing  (pic) has joined several national leaders in asking the government to deport controversial Mumbai-born Muslim preacher Zakir Naik to his home country India.

“I believe we (Malaysia) have an Extradition Agreement with India and if Zakir is a problem to Malaysia and the Indian government wants him, just deport him. Why keep him?

“He is, it seems, a liability to Malaysia’s social and religious harmony,” said Masing who is Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS)
president.

Masing pointed out that Malaysia’s social and religious harmony is more important and said, “Let Malaysian authorities kick him out.”

Two DAP ministers on Wednesday called for action to be taken against Zakir.

In a joint statement, Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo and Human Resources Minister M Kulasegaran said they have bluntly asked Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad during a Cabinet meeting to deport Zakir.

Zakir’s presence in Malaysia and a recent event held by him in Kota Baru, along with other
statements he has made, has caused controversy.

Video images of Zakir standing tall on the back of a Land Rover escorted by police outriders entering the Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium in Kota Baru on Aug 10 must has created fear in the PH leadership and the concerned public.

Such grand welcoming ceremonies are normally accorded to the King, sultans and governor when inspecting a parade.

There have also been views that Zakir has hijacked Malaysia using Islamic fundamentalism to control the minds of the majority and has now placed himself in a commanding position to
influence the country’s politics.
