Horrified villagers who cut open the crocodile's stomach found the victim's left leg, both the victim's left and right hands as well as remains of human organs believed to belong to the victim of last Thursday’s crocodile attack in Sungai Mekam.

SARIKEI: A crocodile believed to have attacked and killed an elderly man from Rumah Abak, near Mekam River here was shot dead by villagers around 8.50pm on Friday.

The dead reptile was brought to the village yesterday where villagers cut open its stomach and found a human’s left leg, both hands as well as several parts of the human organs believed to belong to the victim, Lingai Rabong.

Lingai, 78 from Rumah Abak, Sungai Mekam was reported missing while searching for ‘umbut apong‘ on Thursday morning.

Villagers who were conducting a search for Lingai had seen a crocodile in Mekam River carrying a human corpse in its mouth, not far from where the victim’s belongings were found.

The victim’s son had lodged a police report and sought help from the authorities to launch a search and rescue (SAR) operation for his father.

The SAR was stopped at 11am yesterday.
