KUCHING: Kindergartens and childcare centres in the red and yellow zones in the state are now allowed to operate, said Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) acting chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing.

However, their operations must be in accordance with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) issued by the state Ministry of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development (KWKPK).

“The operators shall be fully responsible for the compliance with the SOPs set by the ministry.

“For record and monitoring purposes, it is compulsory for the kindergartens and nurseries to inform KWKPK before starting their operations,” he said at a daily Covid-19 update press conference on Sunday (Nov 22).

Previously, the kindergartens and childcare centres in areas classified as Covid-19 red zones were instructed to remain closed during the conditional movement control order (CMCO) unless there is an urgent demand for them to be opened.

As for kindergartens and childcare centres in other areas not categorised as red zones, they can operate with immediate effect.
