KUCHING: Kuching City Mosque now provides a digital information kiosk to allow visitors to access information on attractions in the city.

Launched by Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, the kiosk was part of an initiative under the Kampung Heritage Trail project spearheaded by the state government to conserve heritage sites.

Apart from assisting visitors, the kiosk also allows the public to experience a virtual tour via augmented reality technology.

The installation of the kiosk was a collaboration project by the Sarawak State Mosque Welfare Trust Board (LAKMNS), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) and Old Kuching Smart Heritage (OKSHE).

LAKMNS chief executive officer Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai said utilising the digital platform would enhance and give greater understanding on the monument.

“LAKMNS would also suggest establishing the Masjid Tour Guide programme as a complementary service,” he said.
