KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur Football Association (KLFA) has denied a recent newspaper report about salary arrears of four months due to Kuala Lumpur (KL) City FC players.

KLFA president Khalid Abdul Samad said only the salaries for August and September have not been paid out for the City Boys but which would be settled in the very near future.

“Based on the report by a local newspaper recently, it was stated that we have not paid players’ salary for four months, it is quite far from the truth.

“We have never delayed salaries for more than two months, (but only now) August and September are due. However, the August salary will be paid by tomorrow and the September salary has a due date of Nov 7,” he said here today.

Khalid stated that KLFA is always working diligently to ensure that the team management is always on the best track to manage everyone’s welfare, especially the payment of salaries to the players and staff of the City boys, upon assuming the position in 2019.

Despite being pressured by the salary arrears issue, Khalid is positive about the ability of the City lads to book a ticket to the Malaysia Cup final and then lift the trophy like the 2021 edition with coach Bojan Hodak who left for Indonesia in July.

He is confident that KL City FC, who will face Terengganu in the second semi-final of the Malaysia Cup tomorrow at Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium, will deliver an energetic game even though the first match saw recently acquired coach Nenad Bacina’s squad lose 1-2 at home.

Meanwhile, KL City FC general manager Stanley Bernard apologised to the players affected by the salary arrears and will use all avenues to resolve the delay faced by the players. – Bernama
