SIBU: A total of 2,500 alumni have been produced through the Klinik Intensif Kecemerlangan Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia 2023 (KLIK_SPM’23) programme since its launch in 2014.

Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee pointed out that every year the programme organised by the Sibu Bumiputera Graduates Association or better known as Persatuan Graduan Bumiputera Sibu (PGBS) is attended by about 300 students.

“It is clear that this eight-week free tuition programme was created to help SPM students obtain excellent results and further qualify them to continue their studies at university.

“Many of my programmes are focused on education because I think education is very important to change the fate of a student and his family.

“Through education we not only can change the fate of the family but can also change our society, state, and country. So, the impact is very big,” he said while officiating at the 7th Edition of the KLIK_SPM 2023 programme at the University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) yesterday.

The Nangka assemblyman also said that he still receives criticism and objections from some parties who are not satisfied with the existence of the free tuition programme.

“Some say programmes like this shouldn’t be given for free and should be paid for, but I’m adamant that it should be free. That’s why I insist, this programme is for the children of the nation and I am willing to give it for free,” he said.

Dr Annuar also said that he had established 23 free tuition centres in longhouses that were run every night, from Monday to Thursday.

“I also conduct an adopted student programme we called STEM50 (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) in Nangka state constituency.

“It involves 50 students from each of the three secondary schools, namely Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Agama Sibu, SMK Jalan Oya, and SMK Kampung Nangka,” he rold.

Meanwhile, KLIK_SPM 2023 organising chairman Mohamad Shahran Mohamad Lizamberi in his speech hoped that education programmes with such a concept could be continued to improve the next generation’s knowledge and expertise.
