KUCHING: Kolej Vokasional is celebrating Merdeka Day by using donuts to form the Jalur Gemilang.

Culinary arts lecturer Maznah Abdul Hamid said the objective was to instil patriotism among the younger generation.

“I love history, and coincidentally, I teach culinary arts, so I thought, why not combine both into a lesson.”

According to quality control head Augustine Tie, the college usually encouraged events like this as “the management supports initiatives made by students.”

He said the activity—apart from preparing them for the future—taught them to appreciate their country.

“Not everything done today has to be related to money, they need to give back to society also,” Tie added.

The Malaysian flag consists of 2,500 donuts weighing a total of 50kg.
