Kota Samarahan MP concerned about spike in cases

KUCHING: Kota Samarahan MP Rubiah Wang has expressed her concern over the increase in Covid-19 cases in Samarahan District.

She was commenting on the announcement by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) to place Kampung Empila, Samarahan under enhanced movement control order (EMCO).

Rubiah said the village was now the fourth locality in the Kota Samarahan constituency to be placed under EMCO after Kampung Tanjung Bundong, Kampung Sindang and Kampung Stakan Melayu in the last 14 days.

“So far we understand that 24 cases have been reported involving the Muara Tabuan Cluster and after careful research, the Samarahan Divisional Disaster Management Committee decided to implement EMCO at Kampung Empila.

“This is the fourth area in 14 days to undergo EMCO and I hope with this, we can reduce the risk of infection and transmission in our area,” she said on Thursday (June 3).

Rubiah urged community leaders to play their part to ensure standard operating procedure compliance as well as adhering to the guidelines issued by the authorities.

“In addition, community leaders are also asked to always remind residents to remain disciplined and practice self-lockdown.”

She also reminded the public to register for the Covid-19 vaccine to ensure herd immunity can be achieved in Samarahan.

Rubiah added that her team would be closely monitoring the latest development as well as preparing frontline personnel in facing any eventuality.
