Kota Samarahan MP provides food aid

Food supplies to be distributed to Kampung Tanjung Tuang residents.

KUCHING: About 1,200 residents in Kampung Tanjung Tuang, which was placed under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO), received additional food supplies from Kota Samarahan MP Rubiah Wang.

She said the villagers received food items since the beginning of the EMCO last week including those contributed by Muara Tuang assemblyman Datuk Idris Buang.

Rubiah added that the village is one of the three areas in her constituency which were placed under the EMCO. The other two villages are Kampung Jawa Semenggok and Kampung Quop in Batu 12.

“In the last 14 days, 338 cases of local infection in Samarahan district and 41 positive cases in Asajaya district have been recorded.

“I have called on the community leaders to play their roles and ensure that the people in their respective areas comply with the Covid-19 standard operating procedures set by the authorities,” she said today (Aug 5).

Rubiah assured that every effort is being made to contain the spread of Covid-19 in Kota Samarahan.

“We have maximised the use of medical workers and the situation at the quarantine and treatment centre is congested due to the increase of new Covid-19 patients,” she said.

Rubiah said currently, the Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre at Rafflesia college, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak is accommodating about 500 patients in the Samarahan division.

“This number is expected to increase as more cases of transmission were reported,” she said.
