KOTA SAMARAHAN: Police are satisfied with the level of Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) compliance among residents here.

Kota Samarahan district police chief DSP Sudirman Kram said thorough checks were conducted to weed out recovery movement control order (RMCO) flouters.

“So far, (the authorities) had conducted checks in all places, covering areas of Kota Samarahan up to Sadong Jaya.

“Compliance at this point is very satisfying and to issue even one compound per day is not an easy task.

“We had to be very thorough in our observation and only then we are able to issue some compounds,” he told the press after attending the Kongsi Rezeki Komuniti Niaga yang Lestari ceremony at Farley Food Court on Monday (Aug 17).

He said 174 compounds were issued in Kota Samarahan areas for non-compliance of SOP throughout the duration of the RMCO thus far.

He added that six task forces had been formed by Kota Samarahan police to monitor SOP compliance.

“We will continue to monitor and will take stern action agianst those who do not comply with SOP.

“This is to ensure that the community here is safe from being infected, and our responsibility to break the Covid-19 chain. This can be easily achieved if we all work together,” said DSP Sudirman.

He revealed that among the offenders included some traders and civilians alike.

On that note, he revealed that traders often made the mistake of not preparing thermo scanners for customers, in addition to customer information not being recorded correctly, and not providing hand sanitisers.

“People, on the other hand, are usually not observing the physical distancing rules while in premises.”

Meanwhile, DSP Sudirman also mentioned that the issuance of compounds was not intended to cause unnecessary burden to the community.

“It serves to educate the community so that they can live with the new norms set by the government and we can live in harmony and safety even though the Covid-19 problem has not been 100 per cent resolved.

“We do not set any quota related to the amount of compounds issued, but in the event of an offence found by the task force, we will issue a compound.

“This shows that our actions are firm in educating the community to obey SOP guidelines,” he stressed.
