KUCHING: The Kozi Square vaccination centre (PPV), an extension of Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) PPV will be able to vaccinate about 2,000 individuals per day.
Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) advisor Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said the centre, started operating today (June 12) vaccinating about 500 persons on the first day.
“I am very proud of the medical profession and the nursing team from SGH who acted without the need to wait for instructions or funding.
“As soon as they realised that a substantial amount of vaccines had arrived in Sarawak, they stepped up and took the initiative to set up additional vaccination centre,” he said in a Facebook post.
Dr Sim thanked the management of Kozi Square for allowing SGH to utilise its indoor space which was not allowed to open during the movement control order (MCO).
He said SGH had started small with its vaccine rollout but has scaled up significantly, where its other extension at SGH auditorium is able to vaccinate about 1,000 individuals per day.
“This truly represents the best calling of our noble medical profession,” he said.
Meanwhile Dr Sim reminded vaccine recipients to double check on the location where they will be vaccinated if they are assigned to receive the vaccine at SGH.
“This is to avoid congestion which may lead to a vaccination cluster and ensure smooth operation at the centre.
“Please do not come earlier than 30 minutes of your appointments through MySejahtera as you will have to be placed at the holding area if you come too early,” he advised.
