KUCHING: Kampung Beradau plays a key role in ensuring the development of Siburan and its agricultural sector, said Transport Assistant Minister Datuk Dr Jerip Susil.

He said Kampung Beradau is not a traditional village and differs from its counterparts in other Bidayuh-majority areas as its villagers are made up of multiracial and multicultural communities who explored the area for agricultural purposes.

He added that currently, there are various types of agricultural produce cultivated by villagers to be sold at the Siburan market.

“Kampung Beradau can become the local food basket for Siburan and while also becoming a major food supplier for the districts of Kuching and Serian,” he said when officiating at the launch of two roads — Lorong Kerewit, Kampung Beradau and Simpang Kakad Quarry Batu 17 at Kampung Beradau Community Hall, on Sunday (Dec 20).

Apart from that, Dr Jerip said a slaughterhouse will also be built by the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) in the village.

“Therefore, the infrastructure in Kampung Beradau should be given attention by the Serian District Council (MDS) so that agricultural products in the village can be marketed in other areas.

“In the future, Siburan will be Serian’s sub-district and Kampung Beradau can play an important role in the development of Siburan later on,” he added.

The Mambong assemblyman said, the living standards of the villagers of Kampung Beradau can also be improved through agricultural activities and infrastructure built by MDS.

Meanwhile, Dr Jerip also expressed his appreciation towards MDS and the contractors involved who completed the two road projects earlier than the stipulated period.

“MDS focuses on providing infrastructure here such as upgrading of roads and so on. They will not neglect Siburan in terms of infrastructure,” he assured.

Also present were a political secretary to the chief minister Dr Simon Sinang Bada, Serian Resident Tuah Suni and MDS secretary Constantine Gerald David Jonas.
