MIRI: A 210-metre-long concrete drainage project was completed ahead of schedule putting Kampung Muhibbah villagers in Kuala Baram at ease from the possibility of any more floods.

Senadin assemblyman Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin applauded the contractor for completing the project early, which was supposed to be ready in March.

“The RM250,000 project under the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) started on Oct 10 last year and expected to be completed on March 9 but it has finished early.

“We have done a number of concrete drainage project here and spent maybe over RM1 million already in the village but there are still some more to be done,” said Lee on Friday (Jan 14).

He also informed about another project to clear the small river next to the road where the water flow is blocked by overgrown bushes and grass causing floods in the village.

“That is why when the king tide comes, the area will be flooded. Hence, we want to improve further on the drainage in the village to avoid such incidents.

“This year, we have to continue with the request of doing the drainage here until the end of the village.

“I have asked the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) to look into it and try to work on a budget for the project,” he said.

Meanwhile Kampung Muhibbah village committee representative Madang Laeng expressed his gratitude and was happy that the drainage had been completed early.

“Now there are no more flooding because of the drainage, therefore I applaud the contractor for their fine work.

“They have done their job to complete the project and the villagers are satisfied with it,” said Madang.
