KUCHING: A road to Segedup area is a good idea and is welcome, said Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman.

“Even though it is not within my constituency, I believe it would have positive impact on the place and nearby areas,” he said yesterday.

“The route would help dissolve the flow of traffic between Matang and Batu Kawa, and it could increase the potential for development in the area.”

Fazzrudin also said that he has proposed more housing projects to widen opportunities for young people to own house especially those who have just gotten married.

“This is in line with the thoughts of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg who has said that certain aspects of development should focus on youth well-being,” he said.

On June 1, Abang Johari announced that the construction of a road to link Kampung Sungai Maong and Kampung Segedup would commence at the end of this year. According to him, the project could take up to three years.

The road will connect Stapok roundabout to Kampung Sungai Maong and on to Segedup.

Abang Johari said that the road would open up more land for new housing projects, specifically those offering affordable units.

“This will give opportunities to people from Kampung Kudei and surrounding areas to own houses. The (cost of) infrastructure such as roads, supplies of water and electricity, and drainage will be borne by the government.

“Each lot will be priced around RM2,500, with sizes of between eight and 13 points. The lot will have a standalone house, each priced between RM70,000 and RM90,000. We will start building the houses once the road has been completed,” he said.
