Kpg Simpok to hold 3-day ‘Rami Gawai’

SERIAN: The villagers of Kampung Simpok near here is holding a Rami Gawai (Gawai gathering) in the village hall from 1 to 3 June.

According to a representative of the village chief, Roland Sikep, this year’s Rami Gawai will be celebrated on a grander scale.

The activities to be held are music band performance, appearance by popular singer Jocy Menti, lucky draws and Nakya Sangon and Nakya Pegan Contests, traditional Bidayuh dance competition and Fancy Dress contest for boys and girls.

The official opening ceremony of the village new multipurpose hall and the launching of the village Bomba Voluntary Team are also expected to be held during the 3-day festival.

Member of Parliament for Puncak Borneo, Dato Sri Dr James Dawos Mamit will officially launch the Rami Gawai on 1 June while Tarat Assemblyman, Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn will officiate at the closing of the festival on 3 June.

According to chairman of the Rami Gawai committee, Anthony Ata, all the committee members have been working hard with the full cooperation of the villagers.

Apart from the Rami Gawai, a telematch will be held at Serin River near the village starting at 11 am on 28 May.

According to chairman of the telematch organising committee, Robert John many activities will be held during the telematch.

The activities are best decorated raft contest, tug-of-war in the water, throwing balloons and duck catching contest.
