BAU: The state government through the Land and Survey Department (JTS) has started surveying native customary rights (NCR) land under Section 6 and Section 18 at Kampung Skio, including the surveying of traditional villages.

According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh said this was good news for the residents of Kampung Skio and also Serembu as this was the first time this land survey initiative was being held in the Serembu constituency.

He added that the programme was expected to continue for other villages in the future.

“It is not only Kampung Skio but also two other villages which have been entered into by the JTS team, namely Kampung Seropak dan Kampung Seromah, which are currently undergoing land survey efforts.

“It is hoped that after this, JTS will also start surveying for Section 6 and Section 18,” he said when commenting on land survey efforts of villages in the Serembu area at Kampung Skio Multipurpose Hall on Monday.

Miro said the initiative was also the result of the previous three years with the establishment of ‘Task Force Land’ in all villages followed by initiating efforts under the Dayak Bidayuh National Association’s (DBNA).

“What we have done for the past three years seems to have paid off. We have done follow ups, discussed, and held many dialogues and so on regarding the survey of NCR lands in the Serembu constituency over the past three years,” he said.

He thanked DBNA’s leadership for their efforts in helping the Bidayuh community in the rural areas to obtain their land grants.

He also hoped that every application brought by DBNA could be submitted to the higher authorities so that more land in areas owned by the Bidayuh community could be surveyed and land grants could be issued.
