KUCHING: Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) leavers in Kuala Rajang constituency will be assisted when they pursue tertiary education.
Urban Development and Natural Resources Assistant Minister Datuk Len Talif Salleh said this applies to those wanting to further their students to certificate, Form 6, Matriculation, Diploma and Bachelor levels.
“Since 2011 with me as an elected rep, under the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Kuala Rajang Education Bureau, we have allocated funds to students who further their studies in their respective fields.
“Students will receive RM500 for those pursuing a Bachelor’s degree, RM400 (Diploma) and RM300 (Form 6, Matriculation and Certificate).
“From 2011 to 2020, the bureau spent a total of RM1,178,700 for assistance to 2,812 students (529 males and1,183 females) who were selected to further their education,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Len said although the assistance is not substantial in value, it will be able to alleviate the burden of the students and their parents.
“Based on my own experience of being a student and coming from a poor family, I am aware that they face problems in continuing their studies because they have to bear costs such as flights, registration fees and living expenses.
“This initiative is one of my commitments to help excellent and less fortunate students to enrol in higher education institutions as well as improve their lives through education,” he said.
Len said applicants can go to the Kuala Rajang service centre either in the in Sarikei or Tanjung to fill in the application form for the assistance.
