KUCHING: The city’s cleanliness is a shared responsibility of all parties, councils and the public included.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng has said that it is everyone’s duty to ensure cleanliness of the city is maintained.

“We would like to appeal to everyone, that this duty is not only the council’s and Trienekens but it is everyone’s duty.

“We encourage everyone to go back to the 3Rs that we have been talking about for a long time which is to reduce, reuse and recycle”, he said.

Adding further, he pointed out there must be a mindset shift by members of the public and all agencies included in keeping the city clean.

Wee said this to the reporters after an installation of a plaque was done at the BDC Drop Recycling Centre on Friday (October 21)

As part of MBKS plans next year, Wee also shared that plans have been made to organise awareness and campaigns in schools regarding the importance of public cleanliness.

Noting that, Wee said that a change of mindset is necessary and MBKS will be taking recycling and protecting the environment seriously.

“This must be part of the culture, we have to train the younger generations on this matter”, he added.

Meanwhile, he also took time to thank Trienekens Sdn Bhd for sponsoring this project at three MBKS Drop Off Recycling Centres located at BDC, Kenyalang Park and Tabuan Laru.

The artist of the project was done by Anne Boyer, a freelance artist who painted the BDC, Kenyalang Park and Tabuan Laru murals.

“I believe with this beautification project it could make our recycling centres more attractive and could attract the public to come to this place for recycling”, he said.

Present at the installation of the plaque was Trienekens chief executive officer, Stephen Chin, MBKS Councillor Abdul Baderi Sahmat, and MBKS senior officers and MBKS councillors.
