KUCHING: The end of the Kuching Construction Company Cluster was declared on Saturday after no new cases were reported within 28 days from the date of the last case.

With this, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement on Saturday said there were six remaining active clusters in the state — the Engineering Company Cluster with eight cases; Mambong Cluster (7); Sentosa Cluster (31); Melbourne PUI Cluster (3); Satok Market Cluster (4); and Seri Alam Cluster in Bintulu (4).

They said the Kuching Construction Company Cluster had been detected on July 25 and it involved two positive Covid-19 cases.

“The Kuching Construction Company Cluster involved two local employees from a construction company operating in Kuching.

“The cluster was first detected when its index case — Case 578 — underwent a screening at a private health facility in Kuching on July 11,” they said.

The laboratory results from this reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (rT-PCR) test found that the case was positive for Covid-19 on July 12.

Following this report, the second case (Case 649) was detected as a result of contact tracing from the first case. Overall, the committee said 91 contacts consisting of 90 locals and one non-Malaysian were screened — with Case 649 detected as positive and the rest as negative for Covid-19.

“Both of these positive cases did not show any Covid-19 signs or symptoms and they also did not have history of travelling abroad within 30 days prior to testing positive for Covid-19,” they said.

SDMC said the cases had received treatment at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), with the last case recovering and being discharged on August 5.

They said the Kuching Construction Company Cluster was an isolated cluster and was successfully curbed with the efforts and cooperation between the State Health Department (JKNS) and all members of SDMC.

Meanwhile, the committee reported that the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) had issued seven compound notices for non-compliance with the standard operating procedure (SOP), of which four were issued in Kota Samarahan and one each in Sarikei, Betong, and Kanowit.
