Kuching District reports most Covid-19 cases on Wednesday

KUCHING: New Covid-19 cases numbering 780 were recorded on Wednesday (Oct 27) in Sarawak – 67 more than the previous day’s tally of 713.

Of this, 768 of the new cases were Categories 1 and 2 while 12 cases were Categories 3, 4 and 5.

Kuching District reported the most cases with 248 followed by Miri (177); Sibu (77); Bintulu (63); Serian (24); Betong (21); Sri Aman (16); Limbang (15); Kanowit (11); and 10 each in Sarikei and Dalat.

There were nine cases each reported in Mukah, Samarahan and Pusa; Simunjan (eight); seven each in Subis and Beluru; six each in Kapit, Lawas, Saratok and Daro; Meradong (five); four cases each in Asajaya and Bau; three cases each in Belaga and Bukit Mabong.

The districts of Marudi, Lundu, Lubok Antu, Sebauh, Selangau and Matu recorded two cases each while Julau, Pakan, Kabong and Tatau recorded one case respectively.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) also disclosed that 23 fatalities were recorded between Oct 14 and 26, with the victims aged between 39 and 88, from Betong, Sarikei, Samarahan, Sibu, Bintulu, Miri, Kuching and Mukah divisions.

At the same time, SDMC said Kampung Simpok Cluster in Serian and Sungai Poh Cluster in Limbang had ended after no new cases were reported or detected in the past 28 days.

Sarawak currently has 34 active Covid-19 clusters, but no new cases were reported or detected involving any of these clusters.

SDMC said enhanced movement control order (EMCO) had been lifted at Rumah Ubok, Tinting Pingan Ulu Sarikei in Sarikei on Wednesday, and EMCO would be lifted on Thursday (Oct 28) for Rumah Wong, Nanga Luau as well as Rumah Joanes, Batu 18 1/2 Jalan KLD in Julau.
